Why this practice exists
Green belt is one of the few environmental clearance conditions that continues to bind a project for years after the clearance is granted — and one of the few nobody owns. The consultant who wrote the condition has moved on. The landscaper who plants it has not read it. We work in that gap.
What we do and do not do
We establish how much green belt a project is actually required to have, design a belt that satisfies that requirement and attenuates pollution rather than merely occupying area, deliver the planting through a vetted contractor and nursery network, and maintain and evidence it through the aftercare period.
We are not a NABET-accredited environmental consultancy and do not prepare impact assessment reports. We are not an NGO running plantation drives, and we do not sell trees by the unit against CSR budgets. We do not own nurseries or employ planting crews — delivery runs through partners, and our value is in specifying correctly and holding delivery to that specification.
How we work
Every number names its source
No figure appears on this site without the instrument, paragraph and date it comes from. Where a source is secondary, we say so. Where we have not verified something ourselves, we leave it out and say that too — which is why the state register lists the boards we have not read.
We publish primary sources
Several of the instruments that govern green belt in India exist online only as scans. We transcribe them and publish them in full, because a rule you cannot search or quote is a rule most people will get wrong.
We correct the record, including our own
The species page exists partly to say that CPCB uses fifteen agro-climatic zones and not the six widely reported — a figure we had wrong ourselves until we read the document. Corrections are published, not quietly edited away.
Survival is the deliverable, not planting
A belt is audited on survival rate years after it goes in the ground. That shapes how we specify species, how we phase planting, and why we stay through the aftercare period rather than handing over at completion.
