Common questions
How is the green belt requirement calculated?
The percentage is applied to plot area. Which percentage applies depends on your pollution category, whether you sit inside an industrial estate, whether your sector is predominantly air-polluting, and whether the site is in a critically or severely polluted area. A Red category standalone unit in an air-polluting sector on a five-acre plot owes 25%, which is roughly 5,058 square metres.
How many trees does a green belt need?
The 2025 memorandum fixes 2,500 trees per hectare only for an industrial estate's common green area. It sets no density for an individual unit's own green belt. Environmental clearance conditions have historically specified between 1,500 and 2,500 trees per hectare, which is the indicative range this calculator shows.
Is the calculator result binding?
No. It applies the memorandum to your inputs. For an individual unit outside an industrial estate, the memorandum's table is what the sectoral or state Expert Appraisal Committee may refer to, while the binding figure is what your environmental clearance conditions state. Your state board's consent conditions may also impose a stricter requirement.
